My vision or version of “Dallas: the Movie” would see Larry McMurtry writing the screenplay with the look of the film being best described as George Stevens’ “Giant” meets Francis Ford Coppola’s “The Godfather”.
The film would be directed like it was an actual historical event much like Peter Jackson’s “Lord of the Rings” trilogy. I’d have McMurtry use the basic story arc and characters of the 1st few seasons and update them and/or change themes to fit today’s Ewing Clan. Also the story would go deeper into the darkness of Ewing Oil and associates, their reach and influence (Godfather-ish Family/mob like) and how all this created J.R. Ewing, affected Bobby, and the entire Ewing family. I’d use the same locations as were used in the television show, i.e. Southfork and the Dallas area.
And of coarse the Movie would end with a new cliffhanger.
